This week the first ever Climate Camp Cymru begins near Merthyr Tydfil. The first Climate Camp took place in the north of England in 2006 and now take place around the world.
There is a full programme of workshops, with a quite interesting talks, discussions and debates scheduled. As well as sessions like “Composting the capitalist state – how we can, why we must”, “The history of Non-Violent Direct Action in Wales” and “Start a group and take action in 4 weeks” there is a number of workshops dealing specifically with migration:
- Thursday at 4pm “Deportation flights: Stop Deportation Network on charter flights and deportations”
- Friday at 4pm “Migration and climate change: a discussion based workshop by Trapese Popular Education Collective“

Over twenty people gathered in central Cardiff on Wednesday to coincide with the ‘ethnic charter flight‘ that deported Nigerian families at 6pm. There was also protests by Stop Deportation Network in London and Residents Against Racism in Dublin.
We distributed hundreds of copies of a leaflet explaining ’ethnic charter flights’, our opposition to them and deportations in general with specific reference to Nigeria. The was no police presence and the reaction from people passing by was Read the rest of this entry »
