After the success of the Poetry and Music evening for BB last week there will be another exciting event about local asylum seekers at the Butetown History and Arts centre next thursday. Please come along:

Public meeting – All Welcome

In response to poverty, persecution , war and climate change, people are on the move all around the world. In the UK the right of asylum is under constant attack, with regular dawn raids, overcrowded detention centres and increasing numbers of deportations to places the government knows are unsafe.

Come and hear first hand accounts of contending with British border controls from local asylum seekers BB and Constance Nzeneu. Others with a story to tell about their own experiences very welcome to contribute. Followed by a discussion and practical advice on resistance to the UK Border regime.

No Borders South Wales is an informal collective who wish to organise around migration issues, including supporting people who are seeking asylum, raising awareness of asylum issues in the local community and taking action to protest against the racist and unjust immigration system in the UK.

Any blogposts before this one are articles we published before we started this blog and have been archived retrospectively, they originally appeared in the South Wales anarchist newsletter “Gagged!”, though we often also posted on Indymedia UK’s Migration newswire.

On 25th February No Borders held an event for asylum seekers & their supporters led by Women Against Rape & All African Women’s Group. Based on the recently produced ‘A self-help guide against detention & deportation’. We listened to the stories of people who have & have not been able to claim asylum in the UK, how the system worked against women especially when rape is given as a reason for seeking asylum & the dehumanisation that the immigration laws inflict when people find out that their cases have been disbelieved. No Borders Network South Wales is a contact point for people who wish to support those in detention either by writing letters, making phone calls, visiting, sending reading materials & clothes & more.
