The new issue of Gagged! is a Cardiff Anarchist Bookfair special. As well as featuring the full programme of the bookfair, including our workshop at 1pm, there is an article on the upcoming No Border Camp in Calais, reports from our demos against deportations to Iraq and against the ethnic charter flight to Nigeria, as well as Mayday in Cardiff. Along with plugs for the Calais info night on 4th June and our benefit gig on 9th June. All this plus a selection of other articles by South Wales Anarchists, Westside Climate Action, Cardiff Anarchist Black Cross and FITwatch.

Between 19-24th September over 300 people gathered near Balcombe, East Sussex, for the first UK No Border Camp, which formed part of a wider campaign against the building of a new detention prison at Gatwick airport. The centre will be the biggest in the UK, able to hold 426 people & if built will increase the capacity in the UK to nearly 3,000. Those imprisoned in these inhumane places are held without trial, their only crime being to have come in search of a new life, to escape persecution, poverty and war.

In mid-June in a Cardiff nightclub Alfa Diallo was attacked. A man offered him a drink responding “No thank you I don’t drink” he was shouted at, pushed, punched & called a nigger. He & his attacker were escorted outside where he was punched & kicked some more. The bouncers called the cops, who turned up, saw the colour of Alfa’s skin & searched him finding his asylum documents. They took him to the station, let his attacker go & put Alfa in a cell. On Saturday 8th April, over 300 people from all over Britain (including south wales) converged outside Harmondsworth & Colnbrook, two of the UK’s ten detention centres to protest the racist & unjust immigration & border regime as well as the brutal treatment that inmates face within detention prisons.
The demonstration began at around 11.30 but a large police presence forced the majority of demonstrators into a ‘pen’ outside the detention centres preventing inmates & demonstrators establishing a line of sight.
